Crime doesn’t pay, but Clear Writing does!
Are you, or someone you know, guilty of the following Clear Writing crimes?
- Using jargon and acronyms all the time
- Writing quickly and not proofreading their work

- Trying to impress you by using only big words
- Using font that is too small, or too fancy to read easily
- Filling up a whole page with text when a few points would do
- Writing passively, so you don't understand what they're asking you to do
Thanks to a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, QUILL Learning Network is able to offer several services free of charge:
- Literacy awareness sessions - a brief presentation highlighting the adult literacy issue in the region, and why it's important for your organization to be aware of it
- Organizational Literacy Audit - a simple checklist that can be done by QUILL or your own staff to help identify where there is room for improvement in written communications
- Document review/revision - QUILL staff can review any type of document and suggest how it can be made easier to read and understand without losing your message (this service alone usually costs $30-40 per hour)
- Clear Writing training - a workshop to provide your organization with the tools needed to produce clear, easy to use and understand materials
Is there someone you need to report? Turn them in!
Confidentiality is guaranteed (both yours and theirs)
Please send your organization name, contact information, and (if possible) a sample of the guilty party's work to me via fax, mail or email. I will make sure that your organization receives promotional materials about QUILL's Clear Writing services.
